Degenerative Arthritis

Commonly known as osteoarthritis, this variant of arthritis usually happens when inflammation of the synovium becomes so severe that the tissue lining between the two bones wears thin and bone eventually meets bone.

The loss of this cartilage is painful and will continue to get worse as the degenerative arthritis takes its course.  By far osteoarthritis or degenerative arthritis is considered the most popular version of arthritis that people suffer from.  Degenerative arthritis affects the hands, spine, feet, hips, knees and other weight-bearing areas of the body.

Many symptoms that affect individuals that suffer from degenerative arthritis include inflammation and swelling of the joints, mostly below the hips.

Obesity is a large cause of osteoarthritis.  Relief can come in several forms including arthritis medications, exercise and surgery should the patient be willing to undergo it to relieve the effects of arthritis.  One of the more popular types of degenerative arthritis is gout, which the cartilage and bones in the joint become completely unstable and breakdown.

If the degenerative arthritis condition is not treated properly it can debilitate the individual as well as cause severe pain as the condition worsens.  If the joints are substantially damaged surgery maybe the only solution to remove and replace these joints to provide comfort and a higher quality of life.  Medications are available but they only provide temporary relief and some side effects.
